This is a precise balancing posture. Even thought it seems like the body is being carried by the hands, when the body is balanced properly, the weight is transferred into the ground via the wrists. And it is the wrists which carry most of the weight here. The forearms get a good workout in this pose as do the shoulders and chest muscles. The intensity of the move sends blood flowing to the head and senses which is invigorating. The legs are not really exercised too much here, but should be tucked well in. Two things really describe this move – balance and strength.
